About

The shortest path between a question and an answer.

Veritas exists because the most consequential question in publishing — what should I write next? — has, until now, been answered almost entirely by instinct.

Why Veritas exists

The shortest version: a great many books fail before they are written, and the people who suffer the most for it are the ones doing the writing. We have watched friends abandon three-year projects. We have watched small presses acquire on instinct and regret it. We have watched ghostwriters pitch ideas that were already crowded out. The common thread is not talent or discipline. The common thread is a research vacuum.

That is the problem we built Veritas to solve. We do not promise certainty — markets do not work that way. We promise clarity. A method. A way to spend the first hour of a project on evidence rather than hope.

The name is the ambition. Veritas is Latin for truth, and it carries an old idea: that the most useful thing you can offer a person facing a hard decision is honest information, well-arranged. Not a hot take. Not a vibe. Not a listicle. Signal.

Timeline

  1. 2025 — Q4

    Internal research

A two-person research project. Can we score a book topic the same way a trader scores a market? Yes — with caveats. The caveats became the product principles.

  2. 2026 — Q1

    Closed alpha

Twenty authors, editors, and KDP operators ran real projects on the prototype. Their feedback reshaped the scoring model, the data layer, and the dashboard.

  3. 2026 — Q2

    Private beta

Public release of the Opportunity Finder, Title Scorer, and Trend Explorer. Free tier opened to everyone. This is where you are reading from.

  4. 2026 — Q3 (planned)

    Bestseller Prediction & Cover Intelligence

The next phase of the product. See the public roadmap for the full sequence.

What we are building next

Three things, in order:

  1. Bestseller Prediction — a way to score prospective titles against historical bestseller characteristics in a category.
  2. Cover Intelligence — an analysis of the cover conventions that are working in a given sub-genre right now, surfaced as evidence rather than taste.
  3. Book Publishing Intelligence API — the same signals, exposed as a REST API for the tools and workflows you already use.

What we believe

  • Authors are researchers. The writers who thrive in the next decade will be the ones who treat their work as a practice of inquiry, not just expression.
  • Markets are knowable. Demand leaves a trail. The trail is in Google queries, in catalogue velocity, in what readers are searching for and not finding.
  • Tools should respect craft. Data should support the writer, not replace the writing. We optimise for the first hour of a project — the part where a good idea either finds its shape or dissolves.
  • Transparency beats magic. Every score we show you is traceable. We tell you where the data came from, what it means, and where it stops.

Where we are

Pre-launch. A small team, building in the open. Our first users are independent authors, small presses, and KDP operators who have been waiting for a tool like this and have, very generously, told us what they need. We listen carefully and ship often.

The roadmap is short and the principles are simple. We will not add features for the sake of a feature list. We will not sell your data. We will not quietly downgrade the free tier to push you toward paid. We will tell you what is working, what isn't, and what we are doing about it.

If that sounds like the kind of company you want to use — and, eventually, the kind of company you want to work for — welcome. We built this for you.
